PRSA MIAMI TO HOST POWERHOUSE PANEL ON WHY LATINO MEDIA MATTERS IN THE 2012 ELECTION

Hispanic media personalities from Telemundo, EFE, VOXXI and HuffPost Voces will participate

Panel will be held at Telemundo Studios on October 25, presented by Chase, Diageo and Hispanicize

MIAMI—October 17, 2012-- According to the Pew Hispanic Center, a record 24 million Latinos are eligible to vote in the 2012 presidential election. With both presidential campaigns increasing efforts to attract Latino voters, Hispanic media has played a central role in covering the contest by addressing the issues that matter most to the audience and partnering with mainstream media.

On Thursday, October 25th, PRSA Miami will host the panel discussion: Why Latino Media Matters in the 2012 Election? Moderated by Alfredo Richard, senior vice president of communications and talent for Telemundo, the group discussion will feature:

- Prof. Alejandro Alvarado: Program Director, Spanish-language Master's Program in Journalism and director of Hispanic media futures for Telemundo at Florida International University

- Jose Díaz-Balart: Telemundo anchor and NBC contributor

- Hirania Luzardo:  senior editor/reporter, blogger and columnist for HuffPost Voces

- Emilio Sánchez: founder and editor of Voxxi, an online independent news agency in English

- Claudia Solís: editor of Hispanic news for EFE News Service

“We expect a very lively discussion on the tone of Hispanic media coverage, how the dynamic compares to past election years, and how more media outlets in both English and Spanish are contributing to a richer, much deeper discussion on Latino views on politics and electoral outcomes,” said Maribel Ferrer, chair of the PRSA Hispanic committee that organized the event.

Presented by Chase, Diageo and Hispanicize, the event will start at 6:30 pm at Telemundo’s Studio E, the home for national morning show “Un Nuevo Día”. To register, please visit www.prsamiami.org. Space is limited to the first 40 RSVPs. Follow the discussion and PRSA Miami on Twitter: @PRSAMiami.
