A seminar on truth and trust in an era of “alternate facts”

PRSA Miami in collaboration with the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce invites public relations professionals and the business community to take part in an ethics discussion to analyze ways of dealing with lies and misinformation in the age of social media. Drawing on current and recent events, a panel of experts from business, law, the media and public relations will address the ever-evolving ethics of communication at a time of eroding trust in essential institutions and a proliferation of misinformation and deliberate falsehoods on current issues.  *Lunch included”

Kety Esquivel, Senior Vice President, Edelman Public Relations

Kety has more than two decades of experience working with clients in the U.S., Canada, Latin America, Asia, Africa and Europe. She's a former editor of BlogHer, and current blogger on the Huffington Post.

 

 

 

 

 

Fred Blevins, PhD., Professor of Journalism at Florida International University

Fred Blevens, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Journalism and Media, is a leader in the emerging discipline of news literacy, which responds to the glut of digital information by empowering citizens with tools to critically analyze information that shape global opinion. For nearly 20 years, Dr. Blevens was a reporter and editor at major metropolitan newspapers in Tampa, Philadelphia, San Antonio, Fort Worth and Houston. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri School of Journalism.

 

 

Travis Winslow, Vice President of  Ethics and Compliance, Carnival Corporation & plc

Travis graduated from the University of Oregon School of Law in 2000 and served as a Special Agent with the U.S. Naval Criminal Investigative Service from 2000-2006. Travis joined Carnival in 2006 as Director of Maritime Security. Travis transitioned to his current role in 2009 and is currently responsible for structuring the ethics and compliance program across Carnival Corporation & plc. Travis oversees the program’s implementation across brands in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Australia and China as well as over 100 ships around the world.
