This past week, immediate past CEO and Chair of PRSA Rosanna Fiske, APR, addressed Miami chapter members and shared key insights on the state of the society. Under Fiske’s leadership in 2011, PRSA implemented a public awareness program reinforcing the increased value of public relations as it is practiced today. As a result of the campaign, which stressed the importance of ethics and open and honest communications in the age of Wikileaks and citizen journalism, the business case for public relations was illustrated and made real in the pages of such respected national business media like The Boston Globe, USA Today, Wired and BusinessWeek. She encouraged attendees and members to get reacquainted with the PRSA Code of Ethics as it could become an invaluable tool in guiding them in their day-to-day professional decisions.
Fiske also imparted her own pearls of wisdom when dealing with a crisis. She stressed that it’s important to listen first before defending and to be a part of the discussion at all times, which is made even more possible in today’s socially integrated media world.
