About  Kristen A. Corpion, Esq.

Legal advocate, law school professor and community leader, Mrs. Kristen A. Corpion, Esq. is the face of the modern lawyer. After graduating from Berkeley Law School and kickstarting her career at elite international law firm Greenberg Traurig—representing large companies—Kristen has since launched her own innovative law firm, CORPlawCORPlaw helps modern entrepreneurs grow and protect their business, and they specialize in working with locally owned small business owners. A Florida native, Kristen has been practicing law for 7 years, owns two companies, and has earned numerous distinctions, such as being named one of South Florida’s Outstanding 40 Lawyers Under 40 by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Rookie of the Year by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, and earning the Rising Star distinction, a recognition given to less than 3% of lawyers, by Florida Super Lawyers.  Kristen was recently installed as President of the Dade County Bar Young Lawyers Section, which is the largest voluntary association of lawyers in South Florida. Kristen also dedicates her time to mentoring students. She teaches law and business at the undergraduate and graduate levels as an adjunct professor at Florida International University. She is also the Founder and brains behind an innovative community-based initiative, Sidebar. Sidebar brings together lawyers and other legal professionals to collaborate and drive changes in the legal industry. Kristen is passionate about transforming the legal profession, the perception the community has of lawyers, and using the law as a tool to help her local community grow. As the proud daughter of a single-mom who ran her own business, Kristen has a special respect for working with female and minority-owned businesses.

What to expect:

Kristen will provide a high level understanding of what indies should keep in mind to ensure they are covered when doing business on behalf of clients and to protect themselves legally (think business law 101). She will cover topics like entity formation, contracts, intellectual property, dispute resolution, insurance, working with lawyers 101, and a range of important topics (time permitting) at the intersection of business and law--all designed to give you practical tips and solutions without the usual boring approach most lawyers take. Q&A session will follow the talk.**

**Reminder, lawyers are constrained by regulatory bodies and, among a long list of rules, are not allowed to give specific legal advice to individuals who are not their clients. With that in mind, please be sure to keep your questions general in nature.
