About Gaby De La Espriella:

Gaby De La Espriella (Carpio) is a four-time Emmy Award-winning journalist who recently retired from NBC 6 and Telemundo 51 after an impressive 25-year career on the assignment desk.

Throughout her tenure, Gaby played a pivotal role in breaking news coverage. She was responsible for monitoring police and fire scanners, dispatching crews, dispatching the helicopter, confirming critical information, and getting the information from the field crews back to the newsroom.

A highly collaborative professional, she worked closely with reporters to gather essential elements for their stories, including video footage, court documents, and relevant social media content. Her strong network of sources and contacts provided her with a steady stream of tips and story leads over the years.

Gaby also engaged directly with the public, fielding viewer tips, complaints, and human-interest stories, many of which she successfully pitched for coverage. She regularly partnered with public relations firms, helping to turn their events into compelling news stories and coordinating interviews for reporters and anchors.

In addition to managing the team of assignment editors, she mentored numerous interns, fostering the next generation of newsroom talent. Most recently, she coordinated guest interviews for IMPACT, the political affairs show hosted by Jackie Nespral on NBC 6.

Her accolades include four Emmy Awards for breaking news coverage—most notably the shooting at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport—as well as an IRE (Investigative Reporters and Editors) Award for going undercover in an NBC 6 investigation that exposed a scheme to sell U.S. citizenship.

Gaby graduated from Florida International University in 2000 with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. She began her career as an intern at NBC 6 and was hired immediately upon graduation.

She is married, the proud mother of three children, and a devoted fan of true crime stories.
